Check out the photos below. Mmm, wondering what that spiffy specimen of Nature is? That pretty excuse of a feather made its way into our home, courtesy of Little Man.
I appreciate Little Man’s love of bugs, birds, sticks, rocks (SO MANY ROCKS) and many random creatures. Feathers also fall under this category. For example, we can be walking out of an appointment when ol’ “Eagle Eye” (Little Man) will spot a feather and regardless of its condition, pick it up and take it home. Ick. We’ve had a cute little tweet-tweet feather, an unknown but healthy looking feather and a Magpie feather jump into the car with us. The latter feather doesn’t exactly make me clap my hands with glee since that bird, albeit having an important job, is a scavenger. However, Magpies apparently don’t get to own the title of scavenger bird. One day as I was driving out of our lane, I saw this cute little songbird trying with all its might to hoist up some roadkill. And, as I stated on another post, if it hadn’t been so gross, that would’ve made an inspiring poster for a classroom or dentist’s office ceiling.
So back on topic. This rockin’ specimen was proudly brought in by Little Man from the front yard where he hightailed it right to a decorative rectangular glass container that holds actual acceptable (disease free) feathers. One look at that possible rabies feather and I told Little Man that it needed to go outside, that this feather was sick and needed to become one with the Earth. Yeah, he was kinda sad, but he understands that Mommy has standards; feathers need to appear to be disease free and non carriers of rabies or the Plague. I think that icky feather did become one with the Earth or the wind or something because it’s gone, gone, gone. I’m good with that. Tweet, tweet.
