Holy moly. It feels like I haven’t been typing on this bad boy for eons! Honestly, it all began Tuesday, February 12. Around 7:20 in the morning, I had a very painful bout of gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach) sneak up on me. I could barely standup to braid Little Lady and Little Red’s hair. After they were dropped off at school, I had to lay on the couch with a heating pad but I was still in pain, so much that I had to use my contraction breathing (contractions during labor & birth), it was so bad. Finally, at 10:50 it subsided. Amen!

Around 1:00, I glanced out our sliding doors to see our sweet border collie, Allie covered in pink. A second take and I saw that she was seriously injured. Long story short, I got her and Little Man in the car and away we drove to our vet’s office about five miles away. Allie had been attacked by dogs, most likely the neighbor dogs. Maggie and Lottie also had some blood on them but not on or near their mouths, the blood was on their necks. Anyway, when I went to lift Allie out to take into the vet’s office, I saw the blood smeared on the back of my car. Awesome. I looked like I’d just committed a very serious crime. I did find humor in that. So, our Allie girl was given a shot of pain meds and an antibiotic until the doctor could clean and sew up her wounds. The vet called us at 8:00 that night, saying she’d just finished stitching Allie up at 7:45. This was a three hour procedure and at one point, Allie quit breathing. The vet lost count of the wounds covering Allie, it was that bad. Ugh. We would be able to take her home the next day. Yay!
That next morning, Mister called and because I was already out running an errand, the vet asked if I could come to their office to try and hand feed Allie because she wasn’t eating. I felt like I was in that scene in Steel Magnolias where two of the characters are filling up their cart with beans for a friend who was to be going into surgery. That was me with soft dog food. Ha, ha. I walked in and when Allie saw me, she lifted her head and tried walking to me (she was being bathed). Oh sweetie pie! Sure enough, she ate about a cup and a half of dog food! Later that day, with three drains sticking out of her to release the fluid from her wounds, we brought her home.

It’s amazing how quickly and how well she has healed up! Her current look is that of a really bad grooming experience but other than that, she’s doing great! That was the beginning of my gerbil wheel. Of course there’s more but if you’re a parent, I don’t need to expound. You already know with volunteering in various capacities, keeping offspring and pets alive, the house presentable, yada, yada, yada. Giddyup!
