Little Man has three loves outside of his family; Thomas the Train, the color green and squirrels. Yes, squirrels. Anytime we’re driving, if there’s a squirrel in my path when driving, Little Man yells for me to stop for the “squh-whoa”. That’s Little Man talk for squirrel. Anyway, this kid has an eagle eye for this tree pet that all too often appears confused about whether to cross a road or not or if it should just freeze in scared yoga pose (if there isn’t such a thing, there should be) in the middle of the road.

One day last week, while at Little Lady’s orthodontist appointment, Little Man spied a squirrel just on the other side of the window next to us. He began pestering me about this squirrel, wanting to take it home for him to keep as a pet in his room. Uh no. We have three dogs, a cat, three goats and two donkeys. We’re not in need of something in a cage that requires frequent cleaning and could possibly claw my face off with its little squirrel paws. Oh holy night. Did this boy have a meltdown, begging me to pleeease get him the squh-whoa! Uh, not gonna happen. More tears and more begging. Even when I tried explaining that this squirrel has a family that loves him/her and the squirrel needs to be getting home for dinner . . . nada. Little Man was hell bent on that bushy tailed critter hitching a ride home with us. This emotional diatribe went on for about seven or so humbling minutes, even with me trying to comfort him and explain why I wasn’t digging the idea. Little Man was so adorable and humorous with his passion for adopting/kidnapping the squirrel, that I had to take some photos. See below.
Eventually, on the drive home, Little Man calmed down and has resigned himself to the fact that there is no squirrel in the world that will be joining our Christmas card photo. Not that we include all of our pets, but I’m just trying to get the point across.
