With having ties to sheep, ha, my family volunteers every October (thinking this is year 6?) at the Trailing of the Sheep Festival held in Ketchum and Hailey Idaho. My sister has been in charge of the parade the past two years. Wrangling humans, horses pulling wagons and wooly critters, takes some talent and know how.
So anyhoo, in the past, after helping to trail the sheep down the main drag of Ketchum with a couple of instances of being asked if I wanted back into the crowd by festival goers and once, being yelled at by some woman who thought I wasn’t aware that I had a baby with me (Little Man) and that being around sheep was dangerous for him. Okay . . . This year, we each got to wear bright orange mesh vests! For the first time when volunteering, I walked down Ketchum’s North Main Street with perfect ease while pushing Little Man in the stroller. His legs aren’t long enough to keep up with all of us, so in a set of wheels he went!
Here are some photos from the weekend in Hailey and Ketchum. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get any pictures of the elk that we spotted along the ridge or near our lodging but we did hear them. In fact, one night, we fell asleep to the bugling of an elk. It was pretty great!
The pictures below include deer that hung out by the VRBO where we stayed, fall colors at the top of a hill and the Boise Highlanders.
Wagons pulled by horses of varying sizes, ha, the Boise Highlanders, Boise Oinkari Basque Dancers, a Basque dancing group from Elko, Nevada and a Peruvian dance group, were led by the local Footlight Centre Dancers before the wooly gals made their debut.
Lining the streets, was the usual excitement of the crowd, as the herd of 1500 sheep walked along their route towards their fall pastures, while we had the easy task of walking behind them. Giddyup, baby!
