Well, once again, the daily harvest has produced more fiber for us to consume. This is just what I picked out of the garden today. If I’d stayed in the garden longer, picking the grape tomatoes off the plants, I would’ve required a bottle of water and a light snack. Besides, I may get lost as the tomato section of the garden has turned into a jungle in about six days. I wouldn’t have been all that surprised if I’d discovered some unknown jungle tribe while in that mess of leaves.
Then, when I drove into our lane after dropping Little Red off at school, I saw a box that was left by our garage. It was full of peaches! A neighbor just to the north of us brought them by because their peach tree was loaded with fruit. There were so many juicy peaches, that I passed some on to friends because we’ve got watermelon in the fridge and in the garden, honeydew and cantaloupe also in the garden. Within a week, our nectarine tree is going to be ready to harvest. We are a regular household up here on the hill. Ha, ha.
While waiting at the bus stop for Little Lady the other day, the neighbor whose lane is the pickup and drop off point, told me I could pick blackberries while I waited. Cha-cha, nah-nah! Little Man helped me and we collected about a pint’s worth of these little delectable berries. However, I wouldn’t make picking these a habit. Unbeknownst to me before this, they have nasty thorns on the vines. It’s kinda like picking berries in a rosebush. Yow. Next time, maybe I’ll wear some of those leather gloves that falconers sport.
The photos below, I took the other day to show the massive size of the pumpkins . . . that are still growing. One of them, if you can tell, is hanging while being supported by the vines. We also have some cool green gourds. Our house is going to rock with veggie (or are these technically fruits?) décor this fall! And we’ll have some healthy guts with all of our produce from our own garden and our neighbors! Giddyup!
