A week or so ago, I was at the Post Office when what did my eyes see? Oh hello 1980’s, the era of scratch-n-sniff stickers! Oh yes, there are not only adorable popsicle postage stamps but they’re scratch-n-sniff! Oh joy! I bought not only one book of these rockin’ stamps but two. I am so pumped to send off cards and even non-online bills! These stamps make mail so much better.
A recent stop at Target had me finding clearance prices for a great deal. Every year, our church has a Christmas tree with tags of the ages, sexes and requests of clothing items of teens and younger children. Members of the parish then take as many tags as they want, fulfill the requests, wrap up the purchases and return the wrapped packages to the church the following weekend where other parish members donate their time the next weekend to collect all these wrapped goodies to then pass out to these kids whose families are in a tight spot. Sometimes, items that I’ve bought, have also gone to children in foster care. I also made quite the haul for my own Littles, Little Man included although I didn’t come across much in toddler boys.
*Little Red telling a ghost story, shortly before strep throat struck
My final random bit of info, is about strep throat. Little Red had strep in February even though she didn’t exhibit the typical symptoms; a sore throat minus the white patches, a fever, a headache and a tummy ache. The lack of white patches at the back of her throat threw me off. On our recent trip to Redfish Lake, our first night there, Little Red had a fever of 101.4, a sore throat, a headache but no white patches. A doctor happened to be in our party so he checked her and assumed it was a bad virus. Five days later, her throat was still hurting along with her tummy, she had the occasional headache but no fever. I still took her into our local urgent care. Little Red tested negative for strep so off we went home. Monday morning, the phone rang and it was urgent care. Little Red’s culture had grown over the weekend and she had full blown strep. Ugh. My girl went all weekend with a painful throat. I did read that it can take a a day or two for cultures to show up as strep but I felt bad that she had gone three days feeling awful. Little Red is on day four of an antibiotic after having to switch from another antibiotic yesterday, due to a side effect of stomach pains. Her throat hasn’t hurt today but she has had a tummy ache even with the use of probiotics and a colloidal silver spray in the back of her throat several times a day.
Since July 3, we’ve had at least Little Lady, Little Red or Little Man with the stomach flu, pinkeye or strep. I’ve never seen a month that has been so full of illness. It’s not just in our home either. Other folks I know have had sick children this month. It’s been insane. Group hug anyone?
