While recently browsing the May 2018 Martha Stewart Living magazine, these DIY napkins popped out at me. I thought they looked fun and easy to whip up! We’ve been using fabric napkins for a few years now to cut down on waste and moolah. Besides, using one’s sleeve is a bit tacky, in my opinion. Cloth napkins have been working out swimmingly at our table!
Off to the fabric store, Little Lady, Little Man and I went (Little Red is attending a camp). With her good taste, Little Lady helped me pick out the fun and colorful fabric pictured above. Once home, I began my fun napkin creations.
The materials needed are:
*at least 1 yard of fabric
*cutting mat
*scissors & rotary cutter
*fabric straight edge
*thread
*sewing machine
I found the instructions to be clear and easy to put into action. However, you can see in the photo that my stitches didn’t turn out as they should have, like in the magazine. For me, that means I’ll be trying to get the correct stitch on fabric scraps until it looks like the napkins in the magazine photo.
Even though I’m going to be troubleshooting the stitch for these napkins, I still enjoyed making them. I think this project would be a great beginner project for someone who’s new to sewing. Well, time for Mama to stitch on! Giddyup!
