I was lucky to grow up in a home that encouraged reading, therefore, it’s no surprise that I can and do read three books at the same time. I LOVE books! Going into a bookstore is a treat for me. Two bookstores that I really enjoy are Rediscovered Books, a locally owned store in downtown Boise and the other, Barnes & Noble, is full of books in a variety of genres. Plus, both of these stores have a fun children’s section.

Due to the craziness of today, I’m splitting up my favorite books for the little ones and will finish the rest of the list in tomorrow’s post. Now remember, I taught Kindergarten and first grade for a total of 15 years, so I have a LOT of children’s books. I mean a LOT.
These are just a few of my favorites for toddlers and preschoolers:
Big Red Barn, Goodnight Moon by Kim Daily Clark
The Little Lamb by Phoebe Dunn (an oldie but a goodie from my childhood)
Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey
The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear by Audrey Wood (really long title but it’s one book)
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Helen Oxenbury
The Little Blue Truck series by Alice Schertle
Bear Snores On (any of the Bear series are cute books) by Karma Wilson
The Poky Little Puppy by Little Golden Books
The Monster at the End of this Book by Big Little Golden Books
Llama, Llama Red Pajama (any of the Llama, Llama series) by Anna Dewdney
Corduroy (any of the series) by Don Freeman
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. & John Archambault
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, The Grouchy Ladybug, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Bill Martin & Eric Carle
Dr. Seuss books are fun for children of any age because of the rhythm and wacky illustrations
Alrighty! So here’s the list for the youngest of the wee ones. Tomorrow will have a list for the slightly older munchkins in your life. Enjoy a good book before you slumber this evening! Nighty-night!
