Now that summer is in full swing up here on the hill, I’m looking forward to the opportunity of getting to soak in some good reading! I went through a list of some of my recent favorites to share in case you may be stumped for some good reads. Here they are:
Historical Reads
One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus
The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (have a happy & lighthearted book to read consecutively, like Junie B. Jones, ha, ha)
The Help by Kathryn Stockett (I loved both the book & the movie)
House Girl by Tara Conklin
Entertaining Reads
Dad Is Fat by Jim Gaffigan (this guy makes me laugh so hard, I’ve got tears rolling down my face)
Breakfast With Buddha by Roland Merulo
Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan (took a couple of chapters to get into it but when I did, I found myself laughing out loud fairly often)
Books by the author Emily Giffin, tend to be lighthearted and easy to read (most of them).
Common Non Sense Addressed to the Reading Public by Andy Rooney
Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers, the entire compilation (currently reading this and it’s a slightly different version of ol’ Mary than in the movie but still enjoyable)
Just Plain Good Reads
The Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
Angels In My Hair by Lorna Byrne
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
The Book of Polly by Kathy Hepinstall
Informative Reads
The Backyard Homestead Guide to Raising Farm Animals by Gail Damerow
Outliers, The Tipping Point, Blink, all authored by Malcom Gladwell
The Blue Zones Solution by Dan Buettner
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
A Happy Pocket Full of Money: Infinite Wealth and Abundance in the Here and Now by David Cameron Gikandi

Two books that I purchased just last week and plan on reading this summer are, My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray & Laura Kamoie and Lemon Meringue Pie Murder by Hannah Swensen. Luckily, we don’t have too much going on this summer so I WILL get to read! Oh giddyup!
