The other day, I bought three brushes for our donkeys, Dottie and Bill, so we can help them expedite the winter coat shedding process. Three brushes, you might ask? That’s to keep peace, with one brush for each child. When you teach very young people for 15 years, you learn tricks, important tricks and this would be one of them. It also helps that I only had to buy three of these brushes and not 25. Anyhoo, the plan was to brush Dottie and Bill tonight and therefore we’d need treats to encourage them to look at this as a wonderful experience since they’re a tad skittish about curry combs, harnesses, etc.
On my grocery store run today, as I ever so gracefully shoved a 25 pound bag of juicing carrots (dear God, who juices that many carrots?!) on the lower section of the cart, a nice older man was walking by and said to me, “You must really like carrots.” I began to laugh and told him this mongo bag of orange was for our goats and donkeys, not for juicing all night long while on a caffeine high. Concerning our supply of carrots, we were on fumes and the charm of my family alone, doesn’t cut it when it comes to luring Dottie and Bill to us.
In photos, our weather went from this (aren’t those freckles great?!):
To this (notice the hail on the deck):
In a phrase that many people are familiar with, all hell broke loose, up here on the hill. I mean hail was angrily shooting down at an angle and pelting the ground. I’d just come inside from winding down the umbrella on the front patio due to the wind, when I looked out the window about one to two minutes later and no lie, saw the hail. It was very short in duration but it definitely soaked the ground and the dog beds on the back deck. Thunder was continuing off into the distance and is still rumbling. I do like a good thunderstorm!
Needless to say, my schlepping a large bag of carrots that was placed under the cart, into my car and into the garage to treat Dottie and Bill, was for naught. Oh well, maybe we can brush our sweet critters this weekend. Or, we could put on some sweet polka music and juice away! A lot of juice.
