With the weather being on the cool side and a free weekend day, we decided to visit our local zoo, http://zooboise.org . Cool weather is the best time to go visit the zoo. A couple of summers ago, we made the mistake of going when it was in the upper 90’s or low 100’s. That was a disappointment. Those animals were smart and stayed in the shade or in their shelters and didn’t venture out into the fires of hell heat, as it was melting the humans who chose to look at animals that day. Considering the size of Boise, this zoo is well done and the employees love the animals and treat them well. There’s an African safari section with animals that are native to the continent of Africa. There are fun photo ops for kids too; the bamboo hut and the safari Jeep. Check out our photos below!
Spotted in our path, was the terrifying neighborhood squirrel that was very friendly and comfortable around Mister. I had to pose with Little Lady’s umbrella because it coordinated with my windbreaker so well. Ole’!
As usual, the penguins were fun to watch. Did I mention that I’ve done many, many field trips here during my 15 years of teaching and then as a chaperone for my kids’ field trips? Well, I have and I really know my way around this place.
So, when we were in Disneyland, Little Lady and Little Red wanted to ride King Arthur’s Carousel. Mister and I tried to dissuade the girls by telling them that there’s the carousel ride at the Boise zoo. We were laughing about that the other day, after seeing how small this carousel was compared to King Arthur’s Carousel. That’s a good size sucker with a bunch of animals to sit on for riding up and down while going in a circle. Still, this is a fun and inexpensive ride for anyone who wants a spin.
I dig the sign by Little Red and Little Man, Please do not feed or touch the prairie dogs. As seen in the pictures above, the prairie dogs that are popping up in that plastic bubble, look very suspicious.
This fury guy was out and about the entire time we were watching him, about 10 minutes. After this guy, it began to rain and if you’re a native to a dry and arid state, being out in rain is a bit of a bummer but it was light enough that we were still enjoying ourselves. Despite the precipitation being a soft rain, we opted to not go see the goats, sheep, etc. Since we have easy access to those four legged friends, this wasn’t even on our radar. However, I do remember that during Little Red’s field trip in Kindergarten, she had to go pet the goats and she asked me if we could pay for some feed so they could eat out of her hand. Yeah, no. We had three, healthy goats in our pasture that could eat out of her hand. Sometimes, Mountain Chica Mama’s gotta make an executive decision.
