Do you enjoy the occasional zap of static when you pull laundry out of the dryer? Yeah, me neither. If you live in the arid West, it’s especially pronounced, for the most part, due to our absolute lack of humidity. Anyway, I don’t use fabric softener and the shocks from freshly cleaned and dried laundry, was getting as old as a feathered hairdo from the early ’80’s (but that could be coming back into style in all honesty). Over spring break, while visiting my parents, I saw that my mom had dryer wool balls and thought I’d give them a go for my laundry. I grabbed my phone and typed “dryer wool balls” in the search engine. The results were quite a few options of not only stores of where to buy these, but a variety of dryer wool balls for purchase. Amazon, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target were some of my choices that I considered, ultimately going with Target since I have the Red debit card and save 5% on every purchase and get free shipping. I may or may not have done the SNL Target Lady arm raise and leg move, http://youtu.be/U9cYmqlbPKl .
These bad boys arrived in the mail a few days later, I ran a load of laundry (isn’t one always doing laundry if he/she is in a family of five?), and threw these balls o’ wool in the dryer with the wet laundry. They’re to save on dryer time by 25% and soften laundry naturally because the clothes are gently pummeled. You can also add 3-6 drops of an essential oil to give your clean laundry a nice scent.
I did notice that the drying time was shortened by 5-10 minutes, depending on the size of the load. Any static cling that I had previously seen, was gone, courtesy of the wool . In the near future, I plan on trying to add some drops of essential oils; maybe lavender or lemon oils.
Maybe next spring when my family’s sheep are being sheared, I’ll have to snag some wool and make some of my own dryer laundry balls. Some people sell Girl Scout cookies, I can get creative and sell laundry essentials! Ha, ha.
