We all have laundry to clean every week. If you’ve chosen to bring offspring into the world, you have laundry to wash a few times a week and at times, depending on the age, activity and/or coordination, ha, it can be daily. I was scrolling through the Today Show app when I saw the topic of a highly unusual way to clean our clothes without a traditional detergent and that is very friendly on the wallet. That’s 720 washes. The woman who reported on this out-of-the-norm clothes cleaning solution, gave it a positive review, so I thought, why not? Let me introduce Eccoegg!
To begin, there are two kinds of cleaning pellets that are placed into the Eccoegg. The dark colored pellets (only one small bag of these), tourmaline ceramic pellets, work to weaken the soiled areas and therefore weaken the yuck that has a hold on the fabric. White colored pellets (several small bags since every 72 washes they need to be added to the Eccoegg) work to naturally penetrate deeply into the fabric, removing the dirt or food, etc. without fading or damaging the fabric. Because of the combination of these two pellets, the pH level of the water is increased that results in soft fabric so there isn’t a need for fabric softener.
Besides the lack of waste, it being natural and free of animal testing, I was also attracted to trying the Eccoegg since Little Red has bouts of eczema where using a gentle detergent has been our norm for years out of necessity. It took about 3-4 weeks to arrive from the UK but once it was in my hot Basque hands, I popped this egg into the wash and was eager to see the results.
Here is test number one; a knee on one of Little Man’s pant legs.
When these pants came out of the wash, the spots were gone! Well, giddyup! Since the spots were gone, I didn’t take a picture because for all you know, I just found another pair of pants for the after photo.
I decided to test this Eccoegg again. Since it really needed to get a wash, I used the rug in Little Lady’s and Little Red’s bathroom. This bathroom gets a fair amount of traffic because it’s the first bathroom in the house coming in from the garage.
before
after
After this rug came out clean as if I’d used detergent, I was sold. This is too good to not pass on to others! I have discovered that Eccoegg is to be used in cold or warm water, not hot. However, that doesn’t deter me from passing on how great I think Eccoegg is.
Ranging in price from $31-$38, it comes in the following options:
fragrance free, fresh linen or spring blossom
210 loads, 720 loads
I chose fragrance free for Little Red’s skin and the fact that very sweet, synthetic smells give me headaches. Besides, not being able to actually sniff these scents, I’m unsure what exactly fresh linen and spring blossom smell like. I gotta say, for example, mountain meadow anything, does NOT smell like an actual mountain meadow. Having helped with my family’s sheep in the mountains and working for the Forest Service during my college summers, I never noticed an overwhelming smell of icky sweet flowers similar to the interior of a cute little old lady’s purse. If anything, there was the occasional scent of pine (that is a great smell!), game (elk, moose, deer) and the smell of fire season. Now the latter, that’d be a laundry scent!
If you decide to purchase Eccoegg, take photos of your before and after and post them in the comments section! I think you’ll be pleased with the results!
