So, there was this wreath that I’d seen online that I really liked. I figured I could make it myself instead of ordering it and the wreath looked like a fun craft to make. I also wanted a decoration to celebrate the wintery season of January. If you live in the West, winter isn’t all that apparent at the moment, more of a mid-spring feel but we’ll see. Anyway, since I’m a crafty kinda gal, I already had some craft items on hand for this project but needed a few more pieces to complete this wreath. I was lucky and found my ribbons and decorative accents and embellishments on clearance at Michael’s Craft Store. This wreath needs:
*round, metal wreath frame of your desired size
*faux flower leaves or leftover leaves from fake flowers (I used the latter)
*rectangle felt pieces of your color preference
*ribbons, embellishments
*floral wire
*wire cutter
*glue sticks
*glue gun
*other embellishments or accents of your choice
*fabric scissors
I wound the sliver, velvety looking ribbon around the metal wreath frame and secured it to the frame with hot glue. The metal frame alone was too blah. I thought about spray painting it sliver or gold but decided on the silver, velvety ribbon since it goes with the heavy fabrics of winter.
Then I attached the leaves to the frame with floral wire and secured it with hot glue.
Cut the size of felt into whatever size of flowers/petals you prefer. Layer them (I layered 3-4 cut out felt pieces with scalloped edges on top of each other) and attach them with hot glue to make your flowers. Then pinch them together to make it appear as a flower. Hot glue the areas that when pinched together, are touching. Hold them until cooled or slightly warm. Decide what you want for the center of your flower, place a couple of drops of hot glue in the center of the flower and place your center item on the glue. Again, wait until it’s cooled or slightly warm.
Glue these onto the wreath frame and stems/leaves with other decorative embellishments placed with the flowers and leaves if you want to cha-cha it up. Here’s the finished product! I’m pleased with how it turned out! I think this is a fairly easy craft that even kids can help with. Go get your craft on!
