My ‘prairie’ journey started 2 years ago. It was DEFINITELY a GOD thing that landed us in the beautiful place we now call home.
We were living in a beautiful, brand-new home in an up and coming neighborhood. It had four bedrooms and 3 baths, a nice yard, and neighbors all around. But, it just didn’t feel right. So, we listed our pretty home and moved into a rental in the small town we wanted to live in. This allowed us the time and financial ability to ‘jump’ on an opportunity. Acreages were selling like hotcakes in our area so we needed to be able to make an offer right away when we found what we wanted. But… we didn’t really even need to spend time looking.
GOD THING.
A man came to our open house for the ‘pretty home’ and mentioned that his in-laws would be selling their acreage in the town we wanted to be in. So… we called them and looked at the property and fell in love. It took us a LONG time to sell our ‘pretty home’. Who knew MASTER BATHROOMS were SO important? Ours wasn’t anything special, and that seemed to be the point that kept people from buying. Six months later we finally had an offer made. All this time, the couple who owned the acreage WAITED FOR US. It was so wonderful of them… they weren’t in any hurry. If they had listed the home, it would have sold in a heart beat. We are ever so grateful to them for waiting on us.
GOD THING.
This new acreage home was adorable. We had plans from the start to add on… the home is small, not quite ‘tiny home’ small, but basically ONE BEDROOM small. We are a family of 5…. plus a big dog. This is not really ideal. But, the huge white barn, the proximity to town, and, let’s be honest, the perfect price, made it worth the work necessary to make this place our forever home.
TWO. YEARS. LATER.
We are still in a one bedroom home. BUT we’re making progress. Currently, we have renovated the one existing bathroom, enclosed the loft that is our bedroom, and have begun the kitchen remodel. I have been told our addition will be enclosed by the COLD of winter… but I’m not holding my breath yet. Spring may be more likely. In the meantime, we continue to get little projects done here and there. We learned quickly that in the country, there is ALWAYS something that needs to be done!
